Terms of the Third International Stefan Turchak Competition of Conductors

November 26 – December 1, 2017, Kyiv, Ukraine

 

1. General terms

1.1. The Third International Stefan Turchak Competition of Conductors (hereinafter – the Competition) will be held in Kyiv (Ukraine) from November 26 to December 1, 2017 and will end with the final concert of the winners.
1.2. The preparation and holding of the Competition are carried out by the Organizing Committee on preparation and holding of the Competition (hereinafter – the Organizing Committee), the International Jury (hereinafter – the Jury) and the State Directory of International Competition and Art Programs “Art-Ukraine”.
1.3. Prominent figures of the musical arts of Ukraine and abroad are invited to the Jury of the Competition. The Jury works in accordance with the “Regulations on the Jury”, approved by the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Competition.
1.4. The participation in the Competition may be taken by opera and symphony conductors of any nationality with special musical education, students of higher musical educational institutions that accept the proposed conditions of the Competition.
1.5. The Competition may be participated by competitors who, in the year of the Competition (as of November 26, 2017), will not be more than 35 years old.
1.6. To participate in the Competition there is a mandatory implementation of the program requirements (enclosed).
1.7. The award winners of the First Prize of the previous Competition are not allowed to participate in the Competition.
 

2. Procedure of filing

2.1. Applications for participation in the Competition are accepted until October 23, 2017.
2.2. The application for participation is submissed online at the Competition website. Go to the application page.
2.3. As a result of consideration of applications, no more than 22 applicants will be allowed to participate in the Competition by the Organizing Committee.
2.4. All admitted to the Competition will receive a formal invitation no later than October 25, 2017.
2.5. The documents submitted incomplete or late will not be considered.
2.6. Adjustments to the programs submitted by the participants will be accepted until October 27, 2017.
 

3. The order of the Competition

3.1. The Competition program consists of three rounds (two qualifying and final ones). All auditions are held publicly.
3.2. The order of the performances of the Competitors is determined before the first round and is kept till the end of the Competition.
3.3. Not more than 12 participants of the first round are allowed to the second round.
3.4. Judgement of the performances of the participants of the first and second qualifying rounds is carried out by secret ballot.
3.5. No more than 5 participants are allowed to the third, final round.
3.6. The final divide of awards and prizes will be held at the final sitting of the Jury by open voting for each candidate separately.
3.7. The Jury’s decisions at all stages of the Competition are definitive and can not be reviewed.
3.8. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to broadcast radio and television Competition auditions and the final concert, their audio and video recordings, as well as the distribution of these materials without the payment of royalties.
3.9. Laureates and diplomates of the Competition are obliged to make a free performance at the final concert of the Competition.
3.10. The formal opening of the Competition will take place at Taras Shevchenko National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre of Ukraine. The Competition is held in the Great Hall of Petro Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine. Solemn closing and Gala-concert of the winners of the Competition will be held at the Column Hall of Mykola Lysenko National Philharmonic of Ukraine with the participation of the National Honored Academic Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine.
3.11. Competition competitions are provided by the National Honored Academic Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine.
 

4. Financial terms

4.1. Participants who have been admitted to competitive auditions pay an entrance fee of $100 (one hundred US dollars) – in UAH equivalent for the rate set by the National Bank of Ukraine on the day of payment). It is not allowed to participate in the Competition without paying the entrance fee.

4.2. In case of refusal of the candidate to participate in the Competition, the documents and the entrance fee will not be returned to him.
4.3. Participation in the first round, as well as travel expenses to Kyiv and back, are carried out at the expense of the participants of the Competition.
4.4. Expenses related to the stay of non-resident participants of the second and third rounds in Kyiv during the Competition (accommodation and meals) are carried out at the expense of the founders of the Competition.
4.5. Participants who have not passed the second or third rounds may remain until the end of the Competition at their own expense.
 

5. PREMIUMS AND AWARDS

5.1. The Organizing Committee of the Competition determined the awards and established the prizes for the winners:

  • one first prize – $ 5000 (five thousand US dollars), laureate title and gold medal;
  • one second prize – $ 4000 (four thousand US dollars), laureate title and silver medal;
  • one third prize – $ 2000 (two thousand US dollars), laureate title and bronze medal.

Finalists who are not awarded the laureate title (no more than two) are awarded a $ 500 (five hundred US dollars) bonus and diplomas with the title of Diploma winner of the Competition and the awarding of the diploma winner’s medal.
5.2. The Organizing Committee and the Jury of the Competition reserve the right to set special prizes and awards for the participants of the Competition.
5.3. The Jury has the right:

  • not to award all prizes;
  • to divide the prize among the performers (except the first one)
  • to award an additional second or third prize if the first or second prize has not been awarded accordingly.

5.4. All premiums are paid in national currency at the current rate of the National Bank of Ukraine on the payment date, while all of them are withholding taxes in accordance with the legislation of Ukraine
5.5. Community, charitable, musical, international organizations, sponsors of the Competition, as well as some prominent cultural figures may at their own expense establish special prizes and awards for the participants of the Competition. Rewarding them must be agreed with the Jury of the Competition.
5.6. In case of disputes in interpreting these terms of the Competition, the only correct text is a Ukrainian one.
